Top 10 Clothing Stores for Students on a Budget

Hey Everyone!!!

New York Fashion Week: Men’s has just ended and Women’s Fashion Week is still a few days away, so I am taking a little break from my schedule to give you guys a very important post. As a college freshman in New York City, I understand the pain of wanting to stay fashionable on a limited budget. So today, I am presenting my top 10 clothing stores to buy inexpensive, fashionable articles for your everyday wardrobe. Here we go:

10. 2020 Ave

yDo2Is7BOghFbTjaWMLmKdVJwX4PvpSe

2020 Ave is a relatively unknown store due to the fact that it is exclusively an online shopping site. However, it has a gorgeous collection of blouses, skirts, shorts, dresses and shoes that are mostly priced under $50. And just when you thought that things could not get any better, the store also comes with a 10% off coupon for University students, meaning that it is perfect for those on a budget. Enjoy!

9. Boohoo

qBodLeAj2XpsxFCSPKwWNcrvm1bE8MDV

BooHoo is a fast growing online women’s retailer that is originally based in the UK. Due to its English routes, the clothing in BooHoo seem perfect to those who are a fan of the sexy and somewhat avant garde style found in London. In relation to prices, most of the dresses are anywhere from $30-$50, however, due to consistent sales, you usually won’t need to spend over $30. I personally love the actual quality of clothing from BooHoo, however, I do wish they had a storefront near NYC due to sizing mishaps.

8. Agaci

0EjnqaJTRvmS7CNzrZ1upM2sHDgbdV5F

A’Gaci is a store that is constantly compared to Forever 21. However, while Forever 21’s style is more directed towards a mass market system, A’Gaci’s style is much more graphic and high street. I personally love the collection of patterns, colors and design that the goods at A’Gaci carries. A dress will set you back anywhere from $15 – $45, however, similarly to BooHoo, consistent sales will save you a pretty penny.

7. Wet Seal

jAdhk32YrUnwTVMRm65KgfyPo4uqtc1G

Wet Seal is definitely the most casual store to come onto this list. Unlike some of the other stores located on this list, it is relatively easy to find a Wet Seal in the continental USA. While I am not the hugest fan of the dresses found at Wet Seal, I absolutely adore their separates! Whenever I want a cute pair of pastel jeans or a fashionable blouse, I go to Wet Seal. A top or pant at Wet Seal only costs around $10 – $20, so I suggest visiting one near you!

6. Love Culture

oEgrcILRkqUiS3N7z4PWYysBKQX1jC08

I am in love with Love Culture! The only reason that Love Culture did not hit my top three is due to the fact that it is not in a very central location to Manhattan, however, it is the perfect store for a teenage or college fashionista. The clothing is consistently on trend and sale dresses start around $10. I wish that their was either a store in Brooklyn or Manhattan – this way I could come here every day.

5. Charlotte Russe

zXYwtMis5DICExgqfmcyTbP8nLhHN9G7

For the top 5 stores, I chose chains that had a large amount of stores throughout the country in order to make sure that you can actually see the product before you purchase. Charlotte Russe is another “fast fashion” powerhouse that are known for its low prices yet high taste. The dresses cost around $15 – $40, however, Charlotte Russe is consistently having “Buy 1 Get 1 for $X” sales. I suggest going to Charlotte Russe for your next shopping spree.

Favorite Location: Queens Center, 9015 Queens Boulevard, Elmhurst NY 11373

4. H&M

mum

H&M is a global superpower. As one of the largest and most spread out clothing stores in the entire world, H&M has locations throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and etc. H&M is known for its low prices, interesting styles and relationships with big time designers (such as Balmain). H&M has a huge variety of prices, however, most dresses shouldn’t cost over $70.

Favorite Location: 111 5th Avenue, New York NY 10003

3. Rue 21

rue21

Rue 21 is by far the most affordable brand on this list. On a good day, a pair of jeans will cost around $2 or $3. Like Wet Seal, I am usually not a huge fan of the dresses at Rue 21, however, every now and then I find something truly spectacular. The blouses and jeans cost around $1 – $15, so it is relatively easy to change your entire wardrobe with just one trip. However, one of the issues with Rue 21 is the quality of some of their clothing leaves much to be desired. With that said, I do recommend it to those looking for a cheap alternative!

Favorite Location: 68 Heather Lane #2, Perryville MD 21903

2. Forever 21

F21

I’m not going to spend too much time with Forever 21 due to the fact that it is so immensely popular, but I am obsessed with this story. While some people complain that the quality of their clothing is not always impressive, the Forever 21 located in Union Square has yet to let me down. With an assortment of dresses, tops and bottoms that rarely cost more than $35, Forever 21 is the motherland for broke teens. However, I had to give the #1 spot to a little unknown beauty:

Favorite Location: 40 East 14th Street, New York NY 10003

1. Mandees

xDqGUJR4wpbVHZPBQumITh12Aon7jC0l

Mandee Shops is a collection of womenswear retailers. Now, I chose Mandees as number one for three reasons: its exceedingly low cost, its high quality and its sizing. Mandees price range is similar to that of Forever 21, while its quality is similar to a mid-price store such as Zara or Express. However, the kicker when it comes to Mandees are that the sizes seem to add more leeway than most other stores on this list. As a young woman with a very unique set of measurements, it can be a struggle to find clothes that fit. However, the sizes at Mandee allow me to properly fit into clothes I could not find anywhere else. If you haven’t tried Mandees yet, I suggest you close your technological device, hop in a car and start shopping!

I’m Going to Mercedes-Benz/MADE Fashion Week!: Rebecca Minkoff Overview + GIVEAWAY!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

RM 3

Welcome to my first post about my experience at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015! I wasn’t able to post as heavily during last season due to some scheduling conflicts, but I have some truly incredible collections to show you this time around! As I said in my overview of the David Tlale FW 2014 Collection (which I wrote almost an entire year ago!), the beauty of fashion week is there are times that you can get into shows that you weren’t originally invited to. I was able to get into the Rebecca Minkoff show through standing room and a very kind member of the band. Here we go:

RM 1

RM 2

Music: Rebecca Minkoff is one of the few presentations that always utilizes live music in all of her fashion presentations. This year’s band was possibly the most talented and well suited for the collection that I have ever experienced. The collection, which was inspired by the 1970’s hippie movement and the punk rock era, was heavily complimented by the 70’s inspired music that also had a modern twist. The sultry vocals and jazzy atmosphere was perfect for the entire presentation.

RM 5

RM 6

Beauty: After doing some researching regarding Mrs. Minkoff’s inspiration for her fall collection, I learned that she was inspired by the Chelsea Hotel girls, including iconic names such as Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. The girls hair was left in messy, long and grungy waves, while their makeup consisted of bold eyeliner, rose gold eyeshadow and neutral lips. All in all, the beauty aspects of the show perfectly fit the era that Minkoff attempted, and succeeded, in conveying.

RM 7

RM 8

RM 9

Clothing: While the presentation and the styling are very important components of any fashion show, the clothing is by far paramount in importance. The collection was absolutely breathtaking. With an emphasis on luxurious outerwear consisting of tweed and suede, flowing chiffon tops and maxi skirts, modern-day capes with fringe and impeccable use of leather, the Rebecca Minkoff FW 2015 Fashion Show was incredible. I hope to see the articles presented at this show worn by fashionistas of all backgrounds in months to come.

Makeup Madness: Smokey “Purple Passion” Eyeshadow Look

Hey Everyone!!!

Image

It’s summer! After a very long and busy school year, I am finally done. For this summer, I will have three main concentrations: volunteering at local community centers, writing college essays and devoting more times for my fashion blog and other beauty-related business ventures. Today, I am returning to my every other day blog post (I even have a journal with all of my planned post for the month) and today I am presenting a smokey eyeshadow look. Here we go:

Step 1: Apply a neutral tone base – pencil or cream would be preferable

Image

Base: MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Groundwork

Step 2: Apply a shimmery light pink-purple shadow from the inner corner to 1/3rd of the lid

Image

Light Purple Eyeshadow: Sephora Enchanting 14 Eye Shadow Palette in shade #2

Step 3: Apply a medium violet shadow to the center of the lid

Image

Medium Purple Eyeshadow: Sephora Enchanting 14 Eyeshadow Palette in shade #3

Step 4: Apply a deep, matte violet shade to the outer corner and crease of the eye. Make sure to use a dense blending brush to buff out any harsh lines that may occur.

Image

Deep Purple Eyeshadow: Sephora Enchanting 14 Eyeshadow Palette in shade #10

Step 5: Use a deep black liquid liner in order to create a dramatic cat eye. Then, use an eyelash curler to curl the lashes and apply two coats of volumizing mascara to finish off the look.

Image

Liquid Liner: Forever 21 Liquid Liner

Mascara: MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash in 3D Black

Lupita Nyong’o Inspired Silver and Blue Eye Makeup + New Haircut!

Hey Everyone!!!

Image

I decided to show a quick tutorial on this celebrity inspired makeup look. For past six months, Ms. Lupita Amondi Nyong’o has taken the acting and fashion world by storm with her magnificent beauty, incredible acting abilities and perfect eye for fashion. From her red, caped Ralph Lauren gown at the Golden Globe Awards to her turquoise Gucci, tight fitting silhouette – Lupita has aced it all. About a month ago, she arrived at the MTV Movie Awards in a rainbow-colored, tea length Chanel dress with a beautiful silver-light blue smokey eye. I couldn’t stop myself from creating the same look. Here we go:

Image

1. Add a black base in order to ensure the shadows appear dark and truly “smokey”. I used Milani Shadow Eyez 12 HR Wear in Black Ink.

2. Add a shimmery black eyeshadow to the outer corner of the eyes. Then, add a navy blue shadow to the inner lid of the eye and a silver highlight in the corner of the eye. Finally, add a light bronze shadow as a brow bone highlight I used Sephora Enchanting Eye Palette

3. Use a black liquid liner to create an intense cat-eye to add a sleek shape to the eyes. I used Forever 21 Liquid Eyeliner.

Image

4. Highlight with a medium-brown highlighter under the eyes, on the bridge of the nose and on the chin. Contour using an intense black-brown shadow in the hollows of the cheek-bones. I used the Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Extra Deep and MAC Eyeshadow in Embark

5. Finally, dust a pink-tone brown, shimmery blush on the cheek bones in order to add a light flare to the face. I used Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush in The Siren

New Lupita Nyong’o Inspired Haircut

Image

For the last month or so, I had been wearing a glued-in, cap weave that I had installed for Junior Prom. However, I decided that I would try to go natural after countless pleas from my mother and hairstylist. All in all, I am quite happy with the results. While I still do not quite love the short hair look on myself, I do feel that this hair is quite manageable.

P.S. Stay tuned for my prom post in the near future!!!

Get Ready With Me: Birthday Dinner

Hey Everyone!!!

I am so sorry that I have been AWOL for so long – for the last month I have been so busy with community service and school work that I had to neglect my blog. The entire month of March was a whirlwind of responsibility that I could not ignore. However, I am back to my passion and will be returning to a regular schedule of 3 posts a week. This is just a quick GRWM to start out with:

Get Ready with Me

My family celebrated my older brother’s birthday a week and a half ago by going out to dinner at our local Hibachi’s. This is a makeup tutorial and clothing review pertaining to the event. I decided to go with a deep purple smokey eye and nude, glossy lip.

Style Savvy: 4 Holiday Party Outfits

Hey Everyone!!!

Sorry that I have been able to post for a few days, I have been so busy with getting caught up on work. But now marks the first day of WINTER BREAK and I’m so excited for the upcoming holidays. Now, for the next week of so, many of you will be going to the annual pattern of events known as holiday parties. It can be a little difficult to determine what to wear at these events, so today, I have compiled a list of outfits that would be perfect for the outing.

1. Holiday Party Outfit: Gold Glitter

Image

This look is perfect for any girl who wants to be the center of attention. Sequin is a great, bold finish for those who want a wearable shine to their ensemble. The flared, tulle skirt of the dress is both flattering by minimizing the waist and adding shape to the hips for a more hourglass figure. A plain black belt can be added to the look to once again minimize the waist. Finally, black tights, sky-high stilettos and a deep red lip complete this holiday show stopper!

2. Holiday Party Outfit: White With a Kick

Image

Some girls love to mix minimization with exaggeration, which is the exact description of this ensemble. By matching this plain, white dress with a golden belt and red pumps, the accessories are the main players in the look. A gold necklace, with a matching belt and bangle set, we keep the color scheme consistent. Finally, a red lip and bronzed skin finish off this look with simplicity and bold glamour.

3. Holiday Party Outfit: Dark and Sophisticated

Image

Now, this is for my girls who enjoy a deep, mysterious wardrobe for the holidays. By adding a beautiful black dress with some form of design, such as this starlit-sky inspired look, with a beautiful black trench coat, you add a sensual, flattering look. Silver accessories are a must when going for a more sophisticated look, so a silver chain necklace and matching earrings are a must. Finally, a sultry smokey eye with deep purples and pinks finish off this look.

4. Holiday Party Outfit: Classic Beauty

Image

When a person thinks of the holidays, the first image that comes to mind is the iconic red dress. This beautiful little number, that only costs $20.00 at Forever 21, is the perfect dress for women of any body type. Staying of the trend of gold accessories, this dress is matched with golden heels and a beautiful wristwatch. A black blazer with leather accents adds an edge to your outfit, while a matching red and gold clutch finishes off the clothing. A neutral eye and bright red lip completes this classic holiday look for the party of your life!

Dream Christmas Wish-List: Fashion and Beauty Blogger Style

Hey Everyone!!!

I can believe that it is only one week until Christmas! I absolutely love the holidays, especially when it comes to spending time with your loved ones and enjoying each other’s company.Throughout the year, I love saving money in order to buy both myself and other’s Christmas gifts. I just love the feeling of going to the store and looking for that perfect gift. Today, I am showing you my dream holiday wish-list that all pertain to my fashion/beauty blog. Enjoy!

Image

ELECTRONICS

1. Digital Single-Lens Reflex Camera (DSLR)

This is an object that every single professional blogger should have in their collection. Sadly, I only own SLR cameras which do not give the same quality of pictures that I hope for. For Christmas, my two dream camera or either a Nikon D5100 with a 18-55 mm lens  or a Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP with a 18-55 mm lens.

Image

Image

2. A Smartphone

Now, while a DSLR and laptop are both essential tools for a fashion or beauty blogger, the camera can be much too large in order to bring at all times. Also, there may be times when a blogger has to post from a location in which they do not have this item. A smart phone with 4G is perfect, as not only is the camera superior to other cell phones, however you can use the internet as you please. My dream smart phone is a Samsung Galaxy 4S with 4G.

Image

MAKEUP

1. Lorac PRO Palette

The Lorac PRO Palette, which retails for $42.00 at Ulta, is the perfect mix of shimmering neutrals and metallic smokey colors. I love the texture of the shadows from my Lorac Unzipped palette, so I feel that this palette would be the perfect addition to my growing collection.

Image

2. Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman Makeup Brushes

I have to go out and say that I love Samantha Chapman of Pixiwoo! I never thought she could be more perfect until she became one of the first Youtube Beauty gurus to go mogul and create her own line of affordable makeup brushes. I own only a dome shadow brush from the colleciton, and would love to own the Real Techniques Core Collection brushes. The photo below came here.

Image

CLOTHING

1.BEBE Contrast Trim Trench Coat

For the winter months, I am absolutely in love on concentrating on minimalism on my wardrobe while using exaggerated outerwear to make any look glamourous (think Gossip Girl). The BEBE Contrast Trim Trench coat, which retails for $139.00 at Bebe Stores, is a beautiful trench coat that adds drama to any look.

Image

2. Fashion Gift Cards to Affordable Clothing Stores

Now, I love receiving gift cards to different stores during the holidays. It’s a thoughtful gift that does not need to be wrapped in an extravagant package. However, a $10 gift card to a store like White House Black Market won’t buy you anything significant sadly. By giving gift cards for affordable stores, you are able to gain a larger assortment of items. Some of my top stores are Forever 21, Agaci, and Payless

Trend Thursday: Infinity Scarves and Dramatic Contouring

Hey Everyone!!!

It has been too long since I had an edition of Trend Thursday! I have been so focused on creating different regular post ideas that I neglected some of my older post-I’m sorry about that. But no worry; I will be bring back more regular post of Fashion Fanatic and Trend Thursday! For today’s edition of Trend Thursday, I will be concetrating on two trends that have conquered the fashion and beauty world in the colder months for the last few years: infinity scarves and dramatic contouring. Now, for a more in-depth review, here you go:

Image

Now, I love a great scarf for the winter. While coats serve as great warmth for your upper body, the scarf allows for heat to stay in your neck and head, warming the entirety of your body. However, the traditional scarf usually seems to snag and is not very practical. The “infinity” scarf was named this due to its circular shape, meaning there is no end. I love how this accessory is so very flattering on woman with different body types, as the neck is one of those few body parts that does not differ thoroughly person to person. The infinity scarf will not snag or move, and comes in a large assortment of colors and patterns, allowing you to find a scarf that fits your personality. Target and Forever 21 carry great varieties.

Image

Now, I have noticed that after a woman applies all of their foundation and concealer, they can loose the natural color in their face. This is where bronzer traditionally comes in, in order to add color to where the sun naturally hits the face. However, bronzer can also be used to exaggerate the contours in your face to add shape and dimension. For the winter months, this dramatic shape along with a deep colored lip prove very popular. I am a huge fan of contouring, as it can completely transform one’s face. For a more high-end bronzer, I suggest the Tom Ford Beauty Bronzing Powder and Nars Laguna Beach Bronzer. However, the ELF blush-bronzer duo and the Maybelline Dream Terra Sun Bronzer are great drugstore alternatives. For girls who are either too fair or too dark for traditional for bronzers, I suggest using an eyeshadow as a contour! For fair skinned girl, Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Hollow is incredible (used by Samantha Chapman from Pixiwoo) . For the darker skinned girls, MAC eyeshadow in Embark is perfect.

Trend Thursday: Leather Trim and Colorful Smokey Eyes

Hello Everyone!!!!

Happy Thursday 🙂 Ok, now I know that it is actually Saturday, however, last night I had this great idea of posting weekly posts about fashion and beauty trends that I have been loving throughout this week. I wanted the posts to be on Thursdays, but I had been so concentrated on beauty products this weeks that I had no time. So following this week, I will be having weekly (on Thursday) review on these trends. Now to the reviews:

Image

I have been in love with leather trim this entire week! I believe that all women have an inner tough personality, and leather is the perfect way to express it. However, sometimes a pure leather ensemble can come off a bit biker and dominatrix-esque, so leather trim is the perfect medium. This picture shows different ways to rock this look.

Image

I have never been into the super dark smokey look, however, a pop of color has always made me smile. The colorful smokey look allows the wear to have a sexy glance without looking either messy or overly grungy. Kristen Stewart is a perfect example of someone who can rock this look. The Smoked Palette is the perfect palette for these looks!!!
